Gatliff 50 km

This hidden jewel has been on my radar for quite a few months now and looks to be a perfect Downland Ultra with 92 runners for the 50 km and a mixture of runners and walkers for the shorter events.

With my recent events at London to Brighton and a reasonably successful run (at ultra pace) at Beachy Head I am tempted to "red-line" this and go for a top 5 after all the 4th place guy last year was slower than me at Beachy Head this year.

So 4 weeks to go and I am actually thinking of going for a podium position...it has got to be worth a try :-)

  1. Hi I am planning on running this too (my first ultra)

Was hoping you might be able to provide me with some gear advice pls

    1) Torch or headlight?
    2) Backpack + bladder or waist belt? Or both?
    3) Ronhill windlite jacket or waterproof goretex

Thanks in advance and I hope you have a good race!

  2. Hi There
I am starting at 7.30 am so that I can get back well before it gets dark. I plan to run it between 6 and 7 hours so a torch won't be necessary as it will be light by 7.00am.

As it is a LDWA event there will be loads of check points with food and water but I will be taking my backpack (bladder taken out) and will have a full 500 ml bottle and an empty one.

I will have a goretex smock in my backpack but will take my lightweight showerproof jacket in the car and make a decision on the day.

Even though there will be food I will still take a banana and some carb gels.

Take some A4 plast sleeves and a few treasury tags so that you keep the instructions dry.

    Good luck to you too
