Realisation creeps in

It is slowly dawning on me that I have The Winter Fan Dance on 19th January and I have to start preparing my equipment and looking to see what I can take as a minimum and this is where the discovery that I had well and truly lost my compass. You may remember that the night before the White Cliffs Challenge (September 2012) I mentioned that I had misplaced my compass but was secretly hoping to find it somewhere in the house before Fan Dance, sadly not so tonight I forked out on a new one.

Say hello to my new SILVA Expedition 4 Military compass I  am informed by the SILVA website that it is:

"Mainly used by the infantry as a soldier’s or officer’s compass. Additional features include measuring scales for positioning (GPS), graduated in mils and degrees (6400/360), magnifying glass and rubber feet for precision map work. Luminous compound that need to be activated by daylight/flashlight etc. Will give light up to 4 hours"
Perfect for my needs and ideal for The Fan Dance which is working my grid reference to navigate to CPs by way of fixed route by path skills and future off road races.

  1. Nice! I enjoy working with a compass. Much more fun than GPS goodies.
