My Cherry Tree
By Jezza Bear
This came to my mind the other day when I was looking at Google Maps UK and decided to show the Jezzarettes a satellite image of the log cabin I was born in back in the 60's.
I navigated to the log cabin near to Fox's Wood and noted some amazing changes that have happened since then. It appears the new family have extended the cabin but shortened the garden. It appears they have sold half the garden and then a new log cabin has been built. The only thing that I still recognise was the cherry tree in the back of the garden, that beautiful cherry tree, my cherry tree.......
That cherry tree was my very first memory, I know that and can still see that memory all these years later. There I lay, near the back door, just lying there , watching the clouds go by. All I can see now is the outline of the cherry tree, my lovely old cherry tree and I am so glad it is still here in my thoughts.
As you now know, I have two sisters, Ginger and Tufty Bear. Tufty Bear is about 7 years older than me and we never really played together and even after all these years still treats me like a little boy and Ginger Bear she is 3 years older and always played with Tufty. Once in a while I may have been included but only if they wanted me to do something that would enhance their enjoyment of their game, like being a goal post or clean up their mess after being promoted to chief tidy upper. Pa Bear was pretty good about it and I remember how we made a tree house in the cherry tree where the only way to get to it was by a rope ladder. Tufty and Ginger were real wooses and couldn't climb the ladder so I always went up there for peace and quiet and to get away from the teasing ( girls can be so spiteful sometimes).
In my tree house, I could just sit there with my toys and play my games, have my ideas and be anything I wanted to be. Nobody could tell me what I wanted to be or do in my tree house. I have been an astronaut, I have been a sniper and my Action Man and I even took on the Badlands in the tree house and got home in time for tea.
All these years later, I hope that tree house is still there and countless children have been up there and played
